The Urgent Call to Test Everything

1 Thessalonians 5:19 Do not put out the Spirit's fire; 5:20 do not treat prophecies with contempt. 5:21 Test everything. Hold on to the good. 5:22 Avoid every kind of evil.

1 John 4:1 Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. 4:2 This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, 4:3 but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world.
4:4 You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. 4:5 They are from the world and therefore speak from the viewpoint of the world, and the world listens to them. 4:6 We are from God, and whoever knows God listens to us; but whoever is not from God does not listen to us. This is how we recognize the Spirit of truth and the spirit of falsehood.

Revelation 2:1 "To the angel of the church in Ephesus write: These are the words of him who holds the seven stars in his right hand and walks among the seven golden lampstands: 2:2 I know your deeds, your hard work and your perseverance. I know that you cannot tolerate wicked men, that you have tested those who claim to be apostles but are not, and have found them false. 2:3 You have persevered and have endured hardships for my name, and have not grown weary.

1 Corinthians 14:29 Two or three prophets should speak, and the others should weigh carefully what is said.

2 Corinthians 13:5 Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you--unless, of course, you fail the test? 13:6 And I trust that you will discover that we have not failed the test. 13:7 Now we pray to God that you will not do anything wrong. Not that people will see that we have stood the test but that you will do what is right even though we may seem to have failed. 13:8 For we cannot do anything against the truth, but only for the truth.

Romans 12:1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God--this is your spiritual act of worship. 12:2 Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Galatians 6:3 If anyone thinks he is something when he is nothing, he deceives himself. 6:4 Each one should test his own actions.

Lamentations 3:40 Let us examine our ways and test them, and let us return to the LORD.

Psalms 26:2 Test me, O LORD, and try me, examine my heart and my mind;
Proverbs 17:3 The crucible for silver and the furnace for gold, but the LORD tests the heart.
